A Cyclone WARNING continues for coastal areas from Kuri Bay to Wyndham.
A Cyclone WATCH continues for coastal areas from Beagle Bay to Kuri Bay.
At 12:30 am CST [11:00 pm WST] Tropical Cyclone Laurence, Category 1 was
estimated to be 125 kilometres north northeast of Kalumburu and 210 kilometres
northeast of Mitchell Plateau and moving west southwest at 14 kilometres per
hour.
Tropical Cyclone Laurence is moving west southwest and is expected to continue
curving southwest towards the northwest Kimberley coast in Western Australia.
GALES with gusts to 100 kilometres per hour are expected over the north
Kimberley coast and adjacent inland areas, extending west during today.
DESTRUCTIVE WINDS with gusts to 130 kilometres per hour may develop between
Kalumburu and Kuri Bay later today.
HEAVY RAIN is expected in the north Kimberley region today as the cyclone moves
closer to the coast.
FESA-State Emergency Service advises of the following community alerts:
YELLOW ALERT:
People in or near the communities of Kalumburu, Mitchell Plateau
and Faraway Bay should be taking action in preparation for the cyclone's
arrival.
BLUE ALERT:
People in or near the communities of Oombulgurri and Kuri Bay should
start taking precautions.

Siklon Tropis Laurence memberi dampak pada kondisi cuaca di Indonesia berupa potensi hujan dengan intensitas ringan hingga lebat di sekitar Kalimantan bagian Tengah, Timur dan Selatan, Sulawesi bagian Selatan, Tengah dan Tenggara, Bali, NTB, NTT, Laut Flores dan Laut Sawu.
Gelombang laut dengan tinggi setinggi 2 - 3 meter terjadi di Perairan sebelah Selatan Sulawesi Selatan, Perairan sebelah Selatan Bali dan NTB, Perairan sebelah Selatan P. Sumbawa, Laut Sawu dan Perairan sebelah Selatan Kupang-P.Rote.
Gelombang Laut dengan iinggi 3 - 4 meter berpotensi terjadi di Samudra Hindia sebelah Selatan p.Sumbawa, Samudera Hindia Selatan Laut Sawu, Samudera Hindia sebelah Selatan Kupang-P.Rote.

TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING CENTRE PERTH
A Cyclone WARNING is current for coastal areas from Cape Leveque to Pardoo
including Broome.
A Cyclone WATCH is current for coastal areas from Pardoo to Port Hedland and
adjacent inland parts of the Pilbara.
At 2:00 am WST Tropical Cyclone Laurence was estimated to be
115 kilometres west northwest of Broome and
250 kilometres north northeast of Wallal
moving southwest at 11 kilometres per hour.
Tropical Cyclone Laurence, located just off the west Kimberley coast continues
to move away from the coast towards the southwest.
GALES with wind gusts to 110 kilometres per hour are may occur along the coast
north of Broome to Cape Leveque.
GALES may extend further down the coast south
of Broome during the morning, possibly reaching Pardoo later in the day.
GALES
could extend further down the coast to Port Hedland on Monday.
The cyclone is expected to intensify further during Sunday into a severe
Tropical Cyclone.
Laurence should take a more southerly track on Monday towards
the east Pilbara coast with the risk of VERY DESTRUCTIVE winds near the cyclone
centre reaching coastal areas during Monday.
Heavy rainfall is expected to continue this morning in coastal parts of the west
Kimberley with isolated falls in excess of 100mm possible over 24 hours.
FESA-State Emergency Service advises as a precautionary measure the following
community alerts:
YELLOW ALERT: People in communities from Cape Leveque to Broome, including One
Arm Point, Djarindjin and Lombadina need to take action and get ready to shelter
from a cyclone.
BLUE ALERT: People in communities from Bidyadanga to Pardoo need to prepare for
cyclonic weather.
Communities in the eastern Pilbara should listen for the next advice.

Noroeste de Australia en alerta ante la llegada del ciclón "Laurence"

El noroeste de Australia está en alerta ante la inminente llegada del ciclón tropical "Laurence", que se aproxima a la zona con vientos de más de 260 kilómetros por hora y riesgo de inundaciones, informaron fuentes oficiales.
"Laurence", de categoría 5, iba a llegar a estas costas la semana pasada pero se desaceleró y desvió su ruta al sur desde el Mar de Timor.
El ciclón se dirige ahora en dirección sur-sureste hacia la región de Pilbara en el estado de Australia Occidental, donde tocará tierra esta tarde o durante la madrugada, según el último parte meteorológico.
"Laurence" podría provocar olas gigantes y los residentes fueron advertidos del riesgo de inundaciones por los aguaceros, sobre todo en localidades costeras como Eighty Mile Beach.
También están amenazados por las lluvias y los vendavales los yacimientos de mineral de hierro en Pilbara de la mayor minera del mundo, la anglo-australiana BHP Billiton, que prevé que tendrá que suspender algunas de sus operaciones.
El peligro del temporal ya obligó a cerrar la semana pasada varios pozos petrolíferos y de gas natural en el Mar de Timor, al norte de Australia.
Hace tres años, el devastador ciclón "Larry" arrasó las costas del noroeste del país, dejando tras de sí un reguero de decenas de muertos y cuantiosos daños materiales.

cyclone centre. VERY DESTRUCTIVE wind gusts are possible on the coast south of
Kuri Bay during this afternoon and evening.

SEVERE WEATHER WARNING
for Damaging Winds and Heavy Rainfall
for people in the southern Alice Springs District.
Issued at 5:00 am CST Thursday 24 December 2009
Synoptic Situation:
At 5am CST ex-Tropical Cyclone "Laurence" is located about
170 kilometres southeast of Yulara and moving east along the SA/NT border.
It is expected to move out of the Territory this evening.
Winds are expected to reach 50-65 km/hr near the low with widespread damaging
wind gusts up to 120 km/h in the southern Alice Springs District, including
Kulgera.
Damaging wind gusts are no longer expected at Alice Springs while winds in the southwest Alice Springs District are gradually easing.
Heavy rainfall over the southern Alice Springs District may cause significant
stream rises, though rainfall is now easing in the southwest Alice Springs
District.
Wind gusts to 120 km/hr were reported in storms at Yulara yesterday while Ernabella reported gusts to 110 km/hr and heavy rainfall during the night with
the passage of the low.
The Northern Territory Emergency Service advises that people should secure loose
outside objects and seek shelter when the conditions deteriorate. Driving
conditions may be hazardous - avoid flooded roads and watercourses.
